Detailed Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park. Depart Arusha, traveling southwest toward the Tarangire ecosystem (approx. 2.5 hours). Tarangire is visually distinct, dominated by dry savannah and massive, ancient baobab trees. You will spend your afternoon game drive exploring the river circuits, which host some of the largest elephant herds in East Africa.
Accommodation: Tarangire Treetops (elevated rooms built around massive tree trunks) or Elephant Springs (deeply secluded premium tented experience).
Day 2: Tarangire to Lake Manyara National Park Take a short drive (approx. 1.5 hours) to Lake Manyara National Park at the base of the Great Rift Valley escarpment. Drive through dense, subterranean-watered forests that are excellent for spotting blue monkeys, baboons, and bushbuck. The alkaline lake attracts large flocks of flamingos, and the park is known for tree-climbing lions.
Accommodation: Manyara’s Secret (boutique luxury with expansive views) or &Beyond Lake Manyara (tucked deep within a mahogany forest).
Day 3: Lake Manyara to the Ngorongoro Crater Ascend the winding roads of the Rift Valley escarpment into the cooler Ngorongoro Highlands. Descend 600 meters to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive, intact volcanic caldera. In a relatively small area, you will transition between the Lerai Forest, open grasslands, and Lake Magadi. This is the most reliable location in Tanzania to spot the endangered black rhino.
Accommodation: Meliá Ngorongoro or Laba Laba Ngorongoro on the crater rim.
Day 4: Ngorongoro to the Serengeti Plains Leaving the highlands behind, the landscape transforms into the vast, open short-grass plains of the Serengeti (approx. 4 hours). Upon clearing the Naabi Hill Gate, your Serengeti game drive officially begins. You will explore areas known for high cheetah populations and stunning granite kopjes. Accommodation: Serengeti Baobab Naabi or Baobab Central.
Days 5 & 6: Deep Serengeti Exploration (Central or North) These two days are deliberately flexible. Depending on your travel month, you will be positioned in either the Central or Northern Serengeti. Dry Season (July-Oct): Head to the Northern Serengeti near the Mara River for the dramatic Great Migration River crossings. Green Season (Nov-June): The Central Serengeti remains your best base for the highest density of big cats.
Accommodation: Serengeti Mara River Camp or Baobab Mara Luxury Camp.
Day 7: Serengeti Fly-Out & Departure Enjoy a leisurely breakfast and a short game drive en route to the nearest airstrip. Rather than facing a bumpy, 10-hour drive back to Arusha, board a light aircraft for a scenic flight back to Arusha (ARK) or Kilimanjaro (JRO) for your onward travel.

Frequently Asked Questions Is a week enough time to see all four parks? Yes. Because Tarangire, Manyara, and Ngorongoro are geographically close, you transition between them with only 1.5 to 2 hours of driving, leaving three full days for the Serengeti.
Will we definitely see tree-climbing lions in Manyara? While famous for this behavior, it does not happen every day. However, your guide knows the best areas to search.
