Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Overnight: Mto wa Mbu; Fanaka, Fig Tree, Jambo or Ngedere Lodge

A transfer vehicle brings you to the departure point and your guide heads south into Tarangire, a park where baobab trees thousands of years old preside over the savannah and elephants move in family groups that make you rethink what community actually means.

Lions, leopards, buffalo, giraffe, and over 500 bird species fill out an afternoon of game viewing before you settle into your Mto wa Mbu lodge for the night.

 

Day 2: Serengeti National Park, Arrival and Afternoon Game Drive

Overnight: Nyani Campsite, Serengeti, tent, mattress, bedding, and camp chef provided

Through the Ngorongoro highlands and into the Serengeti a landscape that recalibrates your sense of scale. No buildings, no roads visible, just sky and grass and wildlife moving exactly as it has for tens of thousands of years.

Your afternoon game drive begins immediately. At Nyani Campsite, your tent is ready and the camp chef is already preparing the evening meal.

 

Day 3: Full Day Serengeti Game Drive, Transfer to Ngorongoro

Overnight: Simba Campsite, Ngorongoro Rim – tent, mattress, bedding, and camp chef provided

A full day in the Serengeti. Lions finishing a night kill, leopards in the acacia, servals through the long grass. In migration season, the movement and sound of hundreds of thousands of animals acting on something ancient and unstoppable.

As the afternoon light goes golden you climb east to Ngorongoro and settle into Simba Campsite with the crater invisible in the darkness below.

 

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Safari, Transfer to Mto wa Mbu

Overnight: Mto wa Mbu – Fanaka, Fig Tree, Jambo or Ngedere Lodge

Into the crater before the crowds. The 20-kilometre-wide caldera is cool and misty at the rim as you descend. Lions on the open grass, black rhinos in the tall grassland, hippos at the pool, flamingos on the soda lake.

A full circuit of the crater floor with your guide, then back to Mto wa Mbu where the lodge has a proper meal and a cold drink waiting.

 

Day 5: Lake Manyara National Park, Return to Arusha or JRO

Overnight: End of safari, transfer vehicle to Arusha or JRO

Your final morning in the field. Lake Manyara opens with groundwater forest  ancient fig trees, baboons overhead, then gives way to an alkaline lake shore pink with flamingos and fever trees where lions rest high in the branches, indifferent to everything below them.

A peaceful, beautiful end to five days in the field. A transfer vehicle returns you to Arusha or takes you directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport.

 

ABOUT THE CAMPSITES

Nyani Campsite in the Serengeti and Simba Campsite on the Ngorongoro rim are public campsites managed by Tanzania National Parks. Your tent, mattress, bedding, and a dedicated camp chef are all provided.

You do not need to bring camping equipment or have any prior camping experience. These are well-run, atmospheric sites used by join safari groups every night of the year.
